Sevil International Women's Documentary Film Festival : masterclass with Claire Atherton
You are invited to an editing masterclass with Claire Atherton, the longtime collaborator of the Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman!
Claire Atherton is a renowned film editor from France who has had a profound impact on contemporary cinema. Her career began in the early 1980s at the Simone de Beauvoir Audiovisual Centre, where she collaborated with feminist filmmakers Carole Roussopoulos and Delphine Seyrig. In 1984, she met Chantal Akerman, beginning a collaboration that lasted for over 30 years.
In 2019, she became the first female editor to receive the “Vision Award Ticinomoda” at the Locarno Film Festival - an important recognition of her influential role in shaping the cinematic language through editing.
Beyond her work in film, Atherton is also deeply engaged in education. She regularly holds masterclasses and workshops at institutions such as La Fémis in Paris and Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola in San Sebastián.
This event will be held with the support of the French Institute (@institutfrancaisazerbaidjan ) in Azerbaijan.
